Nutrition & Balanced Diet for Good Health 

Considering our body as a system, nutrition is an input to it and health is the output. So better the input, better the output. Better nutrition leads to stronger immune systems, less illness and better health. A Balanced diet or healthy diet is one which involves consuming appropriate amount of nutrients and water. It helps maintain or improve health.  

  On broad bases nutrients can be divided into two categories. Macronutrients and micronutirents.

Macronutrients (needed in relatively large amount). They includes :-

  • Proteins              
  • Fats
  • Carbohydrates
  • Fiber
  • Water

Micronutrients (needed in smaller amount). They include:-

  • Minerals
  • Vitamins.

Apart from these there are other nutrients also which include:

  • Antioxidents and
  • Phytochemicals or Phytonutrients.

The macronutrients (excluding fiber and water) provide energy, which is measured in kilocalories(normally called Calories). Minerals, vitamins, fiber, and water do not provide energy, but are necessary for other functionalities of body.
